MTN South Sudan Launches 4G

MTN South Sudan today launched its Fourth Generation (4G) network in the country, joining the rest of the world in rolling out the mobile internet technology that supports higher internet speeds of up to 100 megabits per seconds (100MBs).
Also known as Long Term Evolution (LTE), MTN South Sudan becomes the first mobile operator in the country to introduce this world class technology and commits to working all stakeholders to progressively expand the 4G Network to different parts of the country.
The launch was held under the auspices of the National Communications Authority (NCA) on 3rd December,2020.
“Today we are launching over 70 sites in Juba with a commitment to provide 100% 4G coverage in Juba as well as to extend to other parts the country in 2021”, said MTN South Sudan CEO Gordian Kyomukama.
Kyomukama added that “Today’s launch is a major milestone, as we are delivering leadership in setting the technology standard for 4G services by rolling out this cutting edge network in line with our corporate vision to lead the delivery of a bold new digital world, making it the first in class mobile internet service provider in South Sudan”.
Also speaking on the launch, Chief Technology and Information Officer, Chisanga Kaziya who led the technical roll out of the 4G Network noted that “with 4G comes a lot of opportunities – it allows for improved browsing and online experience; better performance of Multimedia applications; Enhanced Voice and HD Video Calls and compatible with existing telecoms infrastructure. Without a doubt, 4G will improve productivity and help drive economic opportunities in across the country”.

Subscribers can connect to 4G automatically if they have a 4G enabled device and are in Juba. Subscribers with 4G phones in Juba who are unable to connect can visit the nearest MTN Store or MTN Agent to swap their sim card for a 4G sim card.
In 2021, MTN promises to continue expansion of the 4G Network to different parts of the country as it leads the surge to connect South Sudan to the rest of the world with technologies.
