21 days of Y’ello Care

We are pleased to have the return of our annual employee volunteering ‘21 Days of Y’ello Care’ campaign after two years of not being able to host the campaign due to Covid-19. We have rebranded Y’ello Care to celebrate the occasion. Launched in 2007, the campaign seeks to secure high participation levels by staff in high impact social projects to uplift and empower the local communities in which we operate.

This year our Y’ello Care 2022 will be themed “Empowering communities to drive economic recovery”. The theme is a rally call for us as employees to assist our communities to upskill themselves and generate alternative forms of income. This year the focus is on building the skills that they need to thrive and economically participate.

Our theme for the year acts as an important stepping stone towards our strategic focus on Digital Skills for Digital Jobs which is key enabler for MTN to lead digital solutions for Africa’s progress.

The primary programme for Y’ello Care will focus on community training to drive economic recovery, examples of such programmes have been provided in the information pack. For Global Y’ello Care day, on the 21st of June, we are aiming to break the record for the amount of time spent giving training, including in-person training and online options.

Our goal is to go beyond youth to target everyone, see guidance below:

Target beneficiaries:

  • Everyone who makes part of the community should be able to benefit in alignment with MTN’s core belief that everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connect life.
  • Those who are traditionally marginalised – differently abled people, women, and those severely impact by the economic impacts of covid should be considered.
  • We have Identified, Youth Entrepreneurs drawn from different companies in South Sudan as well as a Women’s group Africa Indigenous Women Empowerment (AIWE) to be a part of this Campaign.

Koneta

Koneta are an innovation hub. They are teaming up to engage in an initiative on Digital Access and Digital Literacy in South Sudan the events will include:

  • The Y’ello Start-Up Boot Camp 2022 that will be held from 16th-18th June, 2022 at Koneta Hub offices from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM daily
  • The MTN Y’ello University Challenge 2022, which will be a public pitching contest to be held at Juba University on the final day of the ’21 Days of Y’ello Care’ campaign on 21st June, 2022.
